Arsenal Rules Out Expensive Transfer This Summer

Jun 1, 2015 12:31 PM

Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal will not be buying any of the most expensive players in the world this summer as he looks for value for the club's money.

Arsenal has never been linked for the likes of Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale.

In the past two summers, Wenger has been able to purchase high-priced talents like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

"We have not spent that kind of money," Wenger said. "People forget that for years we had to sell our best players and that was a very difficult period. That is the reality.

"Since we buy again, we slowly come back to a more competitive level. You speak maybe about stratospheric numbers where we will not be involved."

Sherwood: Christian Benteke Should Aim Higher Than Liverpool

May 29, 2015 11:57 AM

Christian Benteke could be sold this summer due to his £32.5 million buyout clause in his contract with Aston Villa. The clause had never previously been disclosed.

Tim Sherwood told Benteke he should set his sights higher than Liverpool.

Liverpool have identified Benteke as one of the players who could help to re-establish them as a top-four club next season and Sherwood said he was powerless to do anything about a deal that was agreed before he became manager. “There’s a buyout clause in his contract so it will be impossible for us to stop him if he wants to go,” Sherwood said. “Someone’s got to meet that buyout clause and if they don’t it won’t be considered because we don’t want to lose him.”

Mourinho: Most Important Thing For Champion Is Not To Lose Players

May 28, 2015 1:22 PM

Jose Mourinho expects to add two or three new players to Chelsea's roster this offseason, but he's prioritizing keeping their existing key contributors.

"We like the players, we're happy with them," Mourinho said, in quoted reported by the Evening Standard. "Two or three are always coming to the club, that's normal, but if you come to a champion team you are not a big name. The big names are the champions.

"How can I find a better striker than Diego Costa? A better midfielder than Nemanja Matic? A better right-back than Branislav Ivanovic?

"Our squad was very good. We didn't have many injuries. We had three players who played 38 matches in the Premier League.

"The most important thing in the market is not to lose players. The players I am looking for are my players, the players I want to keep. Last season I had players I wanted to sell. We have started building a team for the next decade. This season was the beginning of that."

Real Madrid have denied a report indicating they've made an offer to Juventus for Paul Pogba.

Pogba's future at Juventus is uncertain heading into the summer.

Real Madrid said in a statement on their official website: "Following the reports published in the Italian newspaper La Stampa concerning an alleged offer from Real Madrid for the player Paul Pogba, the club wishes to state the following:

"Real Madrid have had no contact either with Juventus or the player's agent and, as a consequence, the reports published in this newspaper are completely false."

Agent: Mario Balotelli Won't Leave Liverpool This Summer

May 27, 2015 12:50 PM

Mario Balotelli's agent has told Sky Sports that the striker will not be leaving Liverpool this summer.

Balotelli joined Liverpool last year from AC Milan on a £16 million transfer. Balotelli scored just one Premier League goal and rarely featured for Brendan Rodgers' side.

When asked whether Balotelli would be leaving this summer, his agent Mino Raiola told Sky Sports: "We have talks with Liverpool and he will stay. I spoke many times with the club and they were happy with his input as a professional.''

Rodgers called on Balotelli to improve his work rate in late February, but the Italy forward made just four more league appearances from then on due to a combination of injury problems and Rodgers' tactics.

Report: Arsenal To Buy Arturo Vidal From Juve For $49M

May 26, 2015 1:26 PM

According to the same reporter who broke the Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal transfer in 2014, Arturo Vidal will join the Gunners this summer.

Argentine journalist Hernan Feler reports that Juventus will sell Vidal to Arsenal for $49 million following the Copa America.

Feler tweeted: “After the Copa America in Chile, it will be made official the arrival of Arturo Vidal to Arsenal”.

“Everything is closed. Alexis [Sanchez] will partner him.”

Adding weight to the rumour is the fact that Vidal shares an agent, Fernando Felicevich, with Sanchez.

Juventus has reached agreement with Sami Khedira.

Valencia Sets €50M Transfer Fee For Nicolas Otamendi

May 26, 2015 1:17 PM

Valencia has placed a €50 million price tag on any club interested in Nicolas Otamendi.

Otamendi has been linked to Manchester United.

Agent Eugenio Lopez has declared that the Argentina international center-back is determined to leave the Mestalla amid interest from several potential buyers.

Otamendi cost Valencia just €12 million when he arrived in 2014.

"Valencia do not give in to pressure from any agent or any comments," Salvo said via the club's Twitter account. "Valencia's position will always be the same. If Otamendi wants to leave he will have to say it publicly.

"If he wants to go he will have to come to the club, not an agent, and pay what the club decide he is worth, which is €50 million at least, and with the payment structure that Valencia decide.

"Otamendi is a Valencia player and we are extremely happy with him. Valencia have not received any offer. In any case Valencia are very happy with the player and we would like that he sees out his contract with us."

Sami Khedira Agrees To Join Juventus On Free Transfer

May 27, 2015 12:51 PM

Juventus will sign Sami Khedira on a free transfer.

The Juventus general manager, Beppe Marotta, said on Tuesday that Khedira, whose contract runs out in the summer, has “an interesting profile”. He added: “Khedira is an opportunity in this market because his contract is running out. We have thought about it and are still reflecting on it as we have to take in many factors.”

Marotta added that the club will do everything they can to keep hold of Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal.

Khedira joined Real from Stuttgart in 2010 and has won the league, the Spanish Cup and the Champions League during his time in Spain, but has suffered from injuries this season and barely featured for the first team.
